Revamping Boring Breakfast

The excuses for not eating breakfast are endless! Do you catch yourself saying: "I do not have time", "I don't like breakfast foods", "I'll just have a cup of coffee." If so, I have the solution for you!


First, eating breakfast is imperative and sets your brain and body up for success. After sleeping, your body needs some food to get your day started. It is important to include a protein, carbohydrate and healthy fat source in order to hold you over until lunch. If you usually settle for a sugary granola bar or a toaster pastry, you most likely will be hungry before lunch and start snacking on processed sugar again.


In order to curb your sugar craving, you should start your day with something nutrient dense, meaning packed with all three macronutrients (protein, carbohydrate, fat) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals)! After you start implementing nutrient dense breakfasts to your daily routine, you will start to have more energy, choose healthier options throughout the day and say goodbye to your sugar cravings!


Now if you are wondering where to start, I have a fabulous and easy recipe to start your day with success. This has been my new go-to breakfast and the way I make it is slightly different than your average "Avocado Toast" recipe due to a secret tangy ingredient that takes the whole dish to a new level. Moreover, this recipe is quick and and a perfect nutrient-filled start to your day! Here is how I make it:


Ingredients:

  • 1/2 ripe avocado

  • 1 tsp of lemon juice

  • finely chopped red onion, to taste

  • 2 slices of toast of your choice (For a more nutrient dense option, use 100% whole grain)

  • salt, to taste

  • 4 thin slices of tomato

  • Protein Choice: 2 eggs, 4 slices of deli meat, or 4 strips of turkey bacon.

  • Secret Ingredient: Balsamic Vinegar

Directions:

  • Peel and crush 1/2 avocado to desired consistency

  • Mix in red onion and lemon juice

  • Toast 2 slices of bread and spread avocado mixture on toast.

  • Top with tomatoes, you're desired protein source, salt to taste.

  • Then, add my secret ingredient, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar, for a tangy twist to this delicious breakfast.
