How I Plan My Life as a Teacher, Miss Central Jersey Coastline, and Human Being

People often ask how I manage being a full-time teacher, serving as Miss Central Jersey Coastline in the Miss America Opportunity, and still trying to live a grounded, normal life.

The honest answer is simple. I do not do it all at once, and I do not do it perfectly. I’ve learned how to live intentionally in seasons, not in constant balance.

Time management for me is not about packing more into my day. It is about making sure my energy is going to what matters most in that moment.

I plan in priorities, not perfection

Every week starts with one question: what actually needs me this week?

Sometimes that is my students, lesson planning, and grading. Other times it is appearances, volunteering, travel, or preparing for the Miss America Opportunity.

I’ve learned that everything cannot be urgent at the same time, even if it feels like it is.

I use anchors in my schedule

Instead of trying to control every hour, I build my week around anchors:

  • Teaching responsibilities

  • Miss Central Jersey Coastline commitments

  • Movement and training

  • Personal and family time

  • Coaching and choreography

These anchors keep my life structured without making it rigid. Everything else fits around them.

I plan for energy, not just time

Not all hours are equal. I used to plan like every part of the day was the same, and it left me constantly drained.

Now I pay attention to my energy:

  • High focus tasks go in my most productive hours

  • Lighter tasks go in lower energy moments

  • Rest is not optional; it is scheduled

This has helped me show up more fully in every role I carry.

I leave room for real life

One of the biggest shifts I’ve made is building space into my schedule on purpose.

Not every moment is accounted for. Not every hour is optimized. Because life as a teacher and titleholder is unpredictable, and so is being a human being.

That margin is what keeps me grounded instead of overwhelmed.

I stopped trying to “balance” everything equally

Balance does not mean everything gets equal attention every day.

It means I recognize what needs me most in a given season and I respond with intention instead of guilt.

Some days I am fully in educator mode. Some days I am fully in Miss Central Jersey Coastline mode. Most days, I am a blend of both, doing my best to serve well where I am needed.

Final thought

I do not believe in perfect time management. I believe in intentional living.

My goal is not to do everything. My goal is to do the right things well, stay grounded in who I am, and give myself grace when life is full.

Because at the end of the day, I am not just managing a schedule. I am building a life.
