Finding Holistic Wellness in a Busy Season

ree

This past year has been one of the busiest of my life—teaching full-time, finishing my master’s degree, preparing for pageants, and serving my community. At times, it felt like there weren’t enough hours in the day. That’s when I discovered the importance of holistic wellness: caring for my mind, body, and spirit all at once.

Movement That Builds Confidence

In the middle of long weeks of lesson planning and appearances, my training sessions became my sanctuary. Strength training and running weren’t just about fitness, but they gave me the stamina to perform on stage and the confidence to carry myself with presence. Even 30 minutes of movement completely shifted my mindset.

Fueling for Energy, Not Just Appearance

It was tempting to grab the quickest snack while rushing from school to rehearsals, but I quickly learned that how I fueled my body directly affected my energy. Preparing simple, balanced meals became a form of self-respect. My students often laughed when I reminded them, “Food is fuel,” but I lived it right alongside them.

Protecting Mental Space

One of my greatest lessons came during musical theatre season when I was in the midst of choreographing two shows and preforming in a show too! Every moment was filled and I realized that finding a few quiet minutes for reflection—writing in a journal, talking with a friend, or just breathing—was what allowed me to stay calm and present. That mental reset made all the difference.

Service That Feeds the Soul

Holistic wellness isn’t only about what we do for ourselves—it’s also about what we give. My work with Best Buddies, Girl Scout Troops, and blood drives keeps me grounded in purpose. But I’ve also learned that to serve others well, I have to take care of myself first.

My Takeaway

Holistic wellness isn’t about perfection. It’s about small, intentional choices—moving your body, fueling it well, protecting your mental space, and giving back in ways that fill your soul. When all those pieces come together, you don’t just survive a busy season—you thrive in it.
